We are pleased to invite You to the restaurant Zlatý rožeň (Golden spit) at 6th District of Prague on Czechoslovak Army Avenue. The house in which the restaurant is situated, was built by local architect Alois Zima in 1929 in functionalist style.
As all the area of Dejvice district was practically built in the same time, this saloon had become the witness of the prosperous era of Czechoslovak Republic in the thirties, dead air of Nazism and Occupation since 1939 and Communist Era after 1948. But it never had left its purpose – to offer good drinks and meals for reasonable prices. Only in the beginning of the nineties after the state owned restaurant has been privatised by non-earnest businessman, its fame has felt down and the heirs of Alois Zima, which restituted all the building back, were forced to shut the restaurant at all because of bad state.
Now Zlatý rožeň has been renewed and it is ready to win its previous fame not only for locals, but for foreign guest as well. Let us to pull You into the atmosphere of the Twenties and Thirties immediately behind the massive oak entrance. A panoramatic drawing of traditional Czech brewery in the entrance hall introduces the guests to main attraction of this restaurant – excellent beer.
Let us cross over our emblem – golden spit highlighted under the armoured glass in the hall’s floor and step down the staircase to the dining-hall. The large bar on the right side offers several very original and traditional Czech kinds of beer including black beer, lagers or yeast beer. All of them are from Černá Hora – Black Hill – brewery with brewing tradition dated up to 1530. The original brewing technology used now on a high quality modern equipment produces really a top quality beers, which have won a plenty of awards both in Czech republic or at the specialized competitions abroad.
As Černá Hora is more than 200 km from Prague and not everybody has time enough during his visit in Czech republic to go for an excursion to the brewery, we tried to bring a bit of its “genius loci” to our restaurant…Historical illustrations, a samples of historical brewing equipment, beer recipes, portraits of craftsmen practicising their businesses…
